This license is a legal agreement between Aleksandar Bakalov, an individual
(the "Licensor"), and the individual or legal entity exercising rights under
this license ("you"). AxolDB is the name of the software product and is not a
legal entity.
1. DEFINITIONS
"Software" means the particular AxolDB Developer Preview version accompanied
by this license, including its AxolDB executables, libraries, Studio assets,
documentation, examples, and public interface definitions. Third-Party
Components are addressed separately in Section 9.
"Permitted Purpose" means evaluation, development, testing, or research. A
Permitted Purpose may be personal, academic, educational, organizational, or
commercial-company-internal. It includes developing and testing an application
that may later be used commercially, provided the Software itself is not used
in Production Use under this license.
"Production Use" means using the Software to operate, support, or make
decisions for an ongoing live business, customer-facing, public, or internal
operational process, rather than solely for a Permitted Purpose. An
organization's commercial status, by itself, does not make its evaluation,
development, testing, or research use Production Use.
"Official Channel" means a distribution channel operated by the Licensor or
expressly authorized by the Licensor to distribute this version of the
Software.
"Controlled Preview Access" means access to an AxolDB instance that you
control, provided to specifically invited collaborators solely for a Permitted
Purpose such as a demonstration, prospective-customer evaluation, testing, or
collaborative research. Controlled Preview Access does not include Production
Use or a commercial database-hosting, managed-database, or service-bureau
offering.
"Official Client SDK Components" means only the following client libraries and
expressly listed supporting assemblies as officially supplied by the Licensor
for this version:
(a) the .NET client assemblies and supporting assemblies listed in Schedule A;
(b) the JavaScript/TypeScript package named @axoldb/client, limited to its
declared public package exports; and
(c) the Python distribution named axoldb-client, which imports as axoldb.
Official Client SDK Components do not include the AxolDB Server executable or
host, Studio, CLI, bundled PostgreSQL, any AxolDB assembly not expressly listed
in Schedule A, test or build tooling, or the complete native distribution.
"Eligible SDK Application" means either an application used for research,
including research by a commercial organization, or an application distributed
and used on a noncommercial basis.
2. LICENSE GRANT
Subject to your compliance with this license, the Licensor grants you a
royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to:
(a) install and run the Software for Permitted Purposes;
(b) make a reasonable number of copies necessary for installation, backup,
recovery, and internal evaluation, development, testing, or research; and
(c) allow your employees and individual contractors acting on your behalf to
use those copies only for your Permitted Purposes, provided that you remain
responsible for their compliance with this license; and
(d) provide Controlled Preview Access to prospective customers, research
partners, and other specifically invited collaborators.
This grant applies equally to individuals and organizations, including
commercial organizations. No license fee is required for a Permitted Purpose.
No separate written permission from the Licensor is required for Controlled
Preview Access that satisfies this license. Each invited participant receives
directly from the Licensor a limited, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right
to access and use that instance solely as part of the Controlled Preview
Access. This is a direct license, not a sublicense from you; it does not
transfer ownership or permit distribution of Software copies.
3. PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION RESTRICTIONS
You may not:
(a) use the Software for Production Use;
(b) distribute, publish, publicly mirror, resell, rent, lease, sublicense, or
otherwise make the Software available to any third party, except for the
personnel use in Section 2(c), Controlled Preview Access in Section 2(d),
and Official Client SDK Component distribution expressly permitted by
Section 4;
(c) operate the Software as a commercial database-hosting, managed-database,
service-bureau, or similar offering for third parties; or
(d) remove or obscure proprietary, copyright, attribution, license, or
third-party notices included with the Software.
Controlled Preview Access is not prohibited merely because an invited
participant uses a network to access your instance. It must remain solely for
a Permitted Purpose and must not become Production Use or an offering described
in Section 3(c).
The Software is distributed through Official Channels. Receipt from an
Official Channel does not grant a general right to redistribute it. Except for
Official Client SDK Component distribution under Section 4, any external
distribution requires separate written permission from the Licensor. Any
Production Use requires a separate written license from the Licensor.
4. OFFICIAL CLIENT SDK REDISTRIBUTION
Notwithstanding the general non-transferable and non-sublicensable grant and
the restrictions in Section 3, a developer may reproduce and redistribute
copies of the Official Client SDK Components as part of an Eligible SDK
Application, subject to all of the following conditions:
(a) the Official Client SDK Components are included with, embedded in, or
distributed as a dependency of the Eligible SDK Application and are not
offered as a standalone SDK mirror or SDK redistribution service;
(b) the developer preserves all applicable AxolDB and Third-Party Component
license, copyright, attribution, and notice files supplied for those
components;
(c) a .NET supporting assembly listed in Schedule A may be copied only in its
exact, unmodified binary form and solely as necessary to support the
permitted Official Client SDK Component use in that application. It may not
be used or redistributed independently;
(d) third-party SDK dependencies may be included only to the extent their
respective licenses permit; and
(e) neither the complete AxolDB native distribution nor the Server executable
or host, Studio, CLI, bundled PostgreSQL, any unlisted AxolDB assembly, test
or build tooling is distributed under this exception.
Each recipient of an Eligible SDK Application receives directly from the
Licensor a royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable
right to install and use the included Official Client SDK Components as part of
that application for Permitted Purposes. This is a direct license from the
Licensor, not a sublicense from the application developer. A recipient may not
redistribute the Official Client SDK Components except as independently
permitted by this Section 4 for the recipient's own Eligible SDK Application.
This Section 4 does not require an application developer to license the
developer's own code under this license. A research application may qualify
when developed by a commercial organization. An application's free-of-charge
distribution, or an organization's nonprofit status, does not authorize
Production Use of AxolDB. This exception does not grant source-code access, a
right to modify the Official Client SDK Components, open-source status, general
standalone SDK mirroring, or redistribution of the full Software.
5. USER DATA, OUTPUTS, AND APPLICATIONS
As between you and the Licensor, you retain your rights in data that you
provide to the Software and in outputs generated from that data. This license
does not grant the Licensor ownership of your data or outputs and does not
expand your rights in third-party material.
An application is not made subject to this license solely because it
communicates with the Software through AxolDB's documented public interfaces.
Except for the express Official Client SDK Component rights in Section 4, this
statement does not grant rights to copy or redistribute any AxolDB code,
library, asset, or other part of the Software that may be incorporated into an
application.
6. OWNERSHIP AND RESERVED RIGHTS
The Software is proprietary and is not open-source software. The Licensor and
the Licensor's suppliers retain all right, title, and interest in the Software
and their respective materials. No right is granted except the limited rights
expressly stated in this license. In particular, this license does not promise
or grant access to source code or a right to modify the Software.
7. VERSION, TERM, AND FUTURE RELEASES
The rights granted for this particular version have no time-based expiration
while you comply with this license. A future AxolDB version may be offered
under different terms. Terms accompanying a future version do not
retroactively replace or reduce the grant for this version.
If you breach this license, your rights under it terminate. On termination,
you must stop using the Software and delete or destroy copies under your
control, except for a copy retained solely when required by applicable law.
Termination does not require deletion of your data, your outputs, or
applications that do not contain the Software.
The direct SDK rights of each recipient are conditioned on that recipient's
own compliance and terminate if that recipient breaches this license. They do
not depend on an application developer purporting to grant a sublicense. An
application developer whose rights terminate must stop further distribution of
Official Client SDK Components.
The direct rights of a Controlled Preview Access participant are conditioned
on that participant's own compliance and end when that participant's
Controlled Preview Access ends or if that participant breaches this license.
Sections 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 survive termination to the extent needed
to give them effect.
8. PREVIEW STATUS; NO SUPPORT OR UPDATES
The Software is an experimental Developer Preview and is not licensed for
Production Use. It may contain defects, lose or corrupt data, expose
incompatible interfaces, or change without a migration path. You are
responsible for evaluation safeguards and backups.
The Licensor does not promise source access, technical support, maintenance,
updates, upgrades, compatibility, service levels, security review, or
production suitability. Any support or other service requires a separate
written agreement.
9. THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS
The Software distribution may include components, libraries, runtimes, or
other materials licensed by third parties. Those Third-Party Components are
governed by their own license terms and notices, as identified in the
distribution. Nothing in this license restricts rights granted directly by a
third-party license or replaces obligations imposed by it. To the extent of a
conflict, the applicable third-party terms govern only the relevant
Third-Party Component.
10. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED
"AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
THE LICENSOR DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED, AND STATUTORY WARRANTIES,
INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE,
TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL
BE SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR UNINTERRUPTED.
11. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE LICENSOR WILL NOT BE
LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL,
EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF DATA, LOSS OF
PROFITS OR REVENUE, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR COST OF SUBSTITUTE GOODS OR
SERVICES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE OR THIS LICENSE, UNDER ANY
THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Nothing in this license excludes or limits liability that applicable law does
not permit to be excluded or limited.
12. GENERAL
If any provision of this license is held unenforceable, it will be enforced to
the maximum extent permitted and the remaining provisions will remain in
effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. This license and any
separate written agreement signed by the Licensor concerning the Software are
the complete terms between you and the Licensor concerning this version; a
separate signed agreement controls to the extent of a conflict.

require separate written permission from Aleksandar Bakalov. Sending a request
or receiving an acknowledgement does not itself grant permission.
No response time, support commitment, service level, or vulnerability bounty
is promised.
SCHEDULE A — .NET CLIENT SDK ASSEMBLIES FOR VERSION
0.1.0-developer-preview
This Schedule A is incorporated into and forms part of this license. It applies
only to the AxolDB product version 0.1.0-developer-preview. The listed AxolDB
assemblies have assembly/file version 0.1.0.0.
A.1 PRIMARY CLIENT ASSEMBLIES
- AxolDb.Client.dll — common transport-neutral client
- AxolDb.Client.Http.dll — HTTPS/JSON client transport
- AxolDb.Client.Grpc.dll — unary gRPC client transport
A.2 PERMITTED SUPPORTING ASSEMBLIES
The following exact, unmodified AxolDB binary assemblies may accompany a
primary client assembly solely to make that client function in an Eligible SDK
Application:
- AxolDb.Server.Contracts.dll
- AxolDb.Core.dll
- AxolDb.Persistence.Abstractions.dll
- AxolDb.Query.dll
- AxolDb.Security.dll
- AxolDb.Transactions.dll
Despite their names or internal capabilities, these supporting assemblies are
licensed under Section 4 only as dependencies of a permitted client SDK use.
Their inclusion does not grant a right to use them independently, host or embed
an AxolDB Server, access an embedded database, or distribute any Server
executable, Server host, Studio, CLI, PostgreSQL component, or complete native
distribution.
A.3 FIRST-PARTY RUNTIME CLOSURES
The permitted AxolDB first-party HTTP client closure is exactly:

- all six assemblies in Section A.2
The permitted AxolDB first-party gRPC client closure is exactly:

- AxolDb.Client.dll

AxolDb.Client.Http.dll is not part of the gRPC closure, and
AxolDb.Client.Grpc.dll is not part of the HTTP closure unless an Eligible SDK
Application independently uses both supported transports.
A.4 THIRD-PARTY RUNTIME DEPENDENCIES
The current gRPC client metadata also identifies Google.Protobuf 3.31.1,
Grpc.Core.Api 2.71.0, Grpc.Net.Client 2.71.0, Grpc.Net.Common 2.71.0, and
Microsoft.Extensions.Logging.Abstractions 6.0.0. The HTTP client has no
non-framework third-party runtime package in its current dependency metadata.
Those dependencies and the .NET runtime are not licensed by this license; they
remain governed by their respective licenses and notices. Build-only tooling
is not included.
